This kind of Visa is only intended for tourists who are visiting Indonesia, and NOT for expatriates intending to work and live for an extended period of time. These visas will be needed by friends or family coming to visit you during your stay in Indonesia.

You can obtain a 7-day Visa on arrival or a 30-day. For both of them, the requirements are the same:

  • Payment to purchase the Visa on Arrival which is US$25 for the 30-day visa and US$10 for the 7-day visa, must be in cash (no credit card)
  • Onward ticket or return ticket must be shown on arrival
  • Passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry

Tourists that are entering Indonesia with a visa-on-arrival facility must go to a special counter to have their passport stamped with an on-arrival visa before going to the immigration desk. The visa application will take 15-30 minutes depending on how many people are applying. Payment counters, a bank counter, and a money changer have been set up to process payments.

Please note that visa on arrival is not extendable. If you would like to stay longer than 30 days in Indonesia, you will have to exit and reenter the country using a new visa (either tourist, Sosial Budaya or business or others).

There are only 11 countries that do not have to get a visa on arrival when they enter Indonesia. These countries can simply walk through the immigration without charge. The nationalities of the below countries are visa free and are allowed to stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 30 days fully visa-free. However, this kind of visa is not extendable. The countries are:

Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Chile, Morocco, Peru and Vietnam.

Visa on Arrival

Update:

As per 26 Jan 2010, foreign tourists visiting Indonesia can now extend their visas-on-arrival for another 30 days, as of 26 January 2010, the Indonesian immigration office announced Monday. Prior to this, foreign tourists were not allowed to extend their visas-on-arrival. They had to leave the country to get a new visa.

In the new ruling, the immigration office has decided to scrap the seven-day visa-on-arrival. The office will now only issue visas for a 30-day stay at the rate of US$25,  extendable for another 30 days.

  2. Hello Muhammad Ahmad,

You can find a sample of a sponsorship letter, written and signed by your spouse, here.

This letter is good to apply for a sosial budaya visa. Your wife can be your sponsor.

    Hope this helps.

Is the visa on arrival services open in the weekend and night time? I have some friends from USA will be visiting Indonesia. They will arrive in the night and will apply for visa on arrival… Thanks

  4. kate says:

I’m getting a VoA to stay with a friend, do I need to go and register with the police when I get to my friend’s house as I won’t be staying at a hotel? Has anyone else had to do this before?
Also, what information do I need for the application? All addresses I will be staying at in Indonesia? Proof of income? or is a credit card enough?
Thanks for answering all my questions!

  5. For obtaining certification of police registration, please see this post http://www.indonesiatogo.com/2010/02/20/obtaining-a-police-certificate-within-24-hours-of-arrival-in-indonesia/

The report is to enable the authority to keep an eye on illegally working in Indonesia. As long as you don’t work with your VoA, you will not have any problems at all. Most likely, in small cities police officers will come and ask your host regarding the purpose of your stay.

Regarding the application for the Visa on Arrival all you need is your passport, your onward ticket out of Indonesia and US$25 to pay for the 30-day visa.

  6. Nyoman, the Visa on Arrival counter at the airport will always be open as long as there are flights coming in, no matter what time or holiday or not.

apakah dia perlu visa on arrival?

    7. US$50 untuk pembayaran
    8. 4 hari untuk bisa menunggu sampai visa keluar.

  13. @iswar… yes… India is one of the countries that can obtain a visa at the airport in Indonesia.

    Thank you!

  18. eni says:

Elisheva, saya mau tanya berkenaan dengan peraturan baru visa on arrival.

  20. @abby I emailed my response to you directly because of the urgency in timing. The fastest way to get a visa into Indonesia is in Singapore. They do not need to go through Jakarta to approve your visa. For a one day approval you can contact a Travel service company in Singapore.

  29. @aflall a mahamood, @Luna you are able to obtain the visa on arrival in Batam. All nationalities in the list above are able to obtain this at the airport in Batam or the Seaport in Batam: Batam Center, Nongsa, Water Front, Sekupang, Harbour Bay

  30. @Telha, please carefully read the list of all the nationalities that can obtain visa on arrival at airports or seaports in Indonesia.

  31. @Mustafa, the visa on arrival can not be extended. If you want to have a visa which you can extend up to 6 months, you should consider the social budaya visa. You can read the post about this kind of visa here
    http://www.indonesiatogo.com/2009/10/14/6-months-social-cultural-visa-to-indonesia/

  37. Reena Zain says:

    Dear Elisheva,
Sorry i forget to tell you that I would like to stay in indonesia just for one year…If it easy to obtain visa for that period?kind regards..

  39. @Reena Zain if you are traveling on a passport from a country that is listed in the post above, then you are eligible for a visa on arrival. Otherwise you will have to apply for a tourist visa at the Indonesian embassy of the last place where you are staying. The website of the Indonesian embassy in Italy is here http://embassyofindonesia.it/contact-us/

  40. @Ajey B you are correct. Please refer to the new update at the bottom of the post above. Thank you!

  44. hartatik says:

Namanya adalah certificate of non-impediment to marry.
