In the mountainous area of Sangkulirang forest in Kalimantan, Indonesia, conservationists found a new population of orang utans of approximately as many as 2,000. There are now about 50,000 – 60,000 orangutans in the world of which 90% can be found in Indonesia and the rest in Malaysia.

Because most of the population of orangutans are remote and scattered, finding a new population that has never been seen is very significant as this may help orangutans from extinction.
