I am in Parangkaraya which is the capital of Central Kalimantan. Kalimantan in Indonesian refers to the entire island of Borneo while in English it is considered the Indonesian part only. Kalimantan has 5 provinces, West, East, North and South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan is divided into 13 districts or regencies, which are headed a regent. (Capitals listed in brackets)
South Barito (Buntok)
East Barito (Tamiang Layang)
North Barito (Muara Teweh)
Gunung Mas (Kuala Kurun)
Kapuas (Kuala Kapuas)
Katingan (Kasongan)
West Kotawaringin (Pangkalan Bun)
East Kotawaringin (Sampit)
Lamandau (Nanga Bulik)
Murung Raya (Puruk Cahu)
Pulang Pisau (Pulang Pisau)
Sukamara (Sukamara)
Seruyan (Kuala Pembuang)
Kalimantan is the opposite of Jakarta when it comes to density of population. In Palangkaraya you have 250,000 people and when you fly into the city, you see nothing but rainforest.
We went to the portable dock airport where planes are being serviced and people can rent them to go all over and see the jungle. If you are interested we can get you in touch with them.

OK it’s Friday night and I’m tired. New post about the Borneo Orangutans coming next.
Pictures and videos as well.

The name “Kalimantan” refers to the Indonesian part of the island. While the name “Borneo” refers to the Malaysian part of it. Never get confused about the names!
By the way Kalimantan means “river of diamonds”.
I thought “Borneo” is the island as a whole, which is also the 3rd largest island in the world. On Borneo island, it is divided among 3 countries – the Malaysian part (North Borneo which is now Sabah, and Sarawak), Brunei (an oil rich country under the Sultanate of Brunei) and Kalimantan (under Indonesia and takes up the biggest land area of Borneo).
